COVID-19:

We are doing our best to ensure every family/individual and Crew-volunteers have a safe and healthy experience at Breakaway Retreat. Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present; we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed during your time at Camp. The CDC advises that older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from this Coronavirus. Families should evaluate their own risk in determining whether to attend. People who show no symptoms can spread Coronavirus if they are infected; any interaction with the general public poses an elevated risk of being exposed to COVID-19. By coming to Breakaway, you acknowledge and agree that you assume these inherent risks associated with attendance.

We hope to answer the most pressing questions and address the larger issues facing a successful Breakaway. Note: some images shown on our website do not represent current guidelines or health and safety measures.

Safety Protocols for Breakaway Camp 2021:

Guidance: Lake Yale Conference Center (rental location), the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, and the Florida State Department of Health. They have all helped us formulate our protocols for safety as it applies to cleaning, communal living, programming and activities.

Keeping it Clean: Lake Yale will ensure meeting and sleeping rooms are cleaned, sanitized and sealed before we enter. We, as the Crew staff will also utilize the best cleaning practices and will sanitize all meeting areas daily.

Check-Ins and Registration: Health screenings for all participants, families and Crew: Prior to and upon arrival, we will be taking some extra time to verify the health of all attending. Our staff will be equipped with temporal thermometers and other screening efforts to make sure each guest is healthy before entering our programs and Lake Yale housing. We encourage you to obtain a Rapid test 72 hours before arrival. Vaccinations are strongly encouraged for anyone over the age of 12.

Constant Hand Sanitation: Hand sanitation dispensers will be in common areas as well as dining areas. We encourage everyone to use hand sanitizer each time they enter a building and wash their hands often.

Social distancing: We are putting limitations on the number of individuals in all spaces of camp, mitigating large groups, and limiting the number of participants in each activity. You may notice tables and chairs are spaced out more. Please don’t rearrange these. We will also implement “do your part, stay 6 feet apart” in indoor spaces.

Facemasks. Are now optional but still encouraged indoors for those not vaccinated. We want to respect those that are more comfortable wearing masks. We will have facemasks available and ask that everyone wear a mask if they are engaging with someone that is wearing one themselves. Please be respectful of each persons comfort level and choices.

Dining Room: As in previous years we will have a designated area in the dining room. Meals are served cafeteria-style and tables are spaced further apart to help maintain distance. Please follow the signs and cafeteria staffs directions.

Other Measures: These measures begin to cover the most pressing questions and address the larger issues facing a successful Breakaway season. As summer continues to get closer, look for updates to our practices and procedures on this webpage.

Before Your Week of Breakaway:
  1. Testing for COVID-19 ahead of Breakaway is strongly suggested. Please do this 72 hours before arrival. If you have been vaccinated this is not necessary.
  2. If anyone in your family is showing any signs of sickness you should stay home. You will receive a full refund if this would occur.

Upon Arrival:

  1. Prescreening questions and temperature checks will be taken at check-in.

During your time at Breakaway:

Everyone will do their best to model and encourage the following best practices.

  1. Masking Up – in the presence of someone who prefers to wear a mask.
  2. Spread Out – We will have seating inside spread out to reduce contact. Keep your distance when moving around inside public buildings and take advantage of the outdoors as much as possible.
  3. Wash/Sanitize Your Hands – We will have anti-bacterial solution throughout the meeting areas and bathrooms equipped with soap and warm water.

Elevate is such a great program. My brother loves the routine of the day - social hour, bible stories, exercise, crafting and the list goes on. It allows him the social setting to build friendships in a safe and non-judgemental atmosphere. He is looking forward to the start of fall term. Thank you for the tremendous effort spent to provide such a 'space' for individuals with life challenges
