Jim & Rhonette Hukill

Founders

At the age of twenty months Jim’s family was informed that he had a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy and that they should expect a life of limitations. However, today many of those restrictions are now far behind him. For several decades he has rolled his wheelchair past one barrier after another and the result is a schooled life in overcoming limits. Likewise, through their marriage, Rhonette has become equally skilled in juggling the affairs of maintaining a home while overseeing the care of her husband. Together, this remarkable couple has found themselves at the leading edge and on the horizon of the disability community.

Executive Director
Jim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Ministries and has provided inspiration, mentorship, and leadership to church communities, corporate entities, and civic organizations since 1993. During that same period he has represented organizations working with disabilities in both volunteer and salaried positions serving as a spokesperson, along with, participating in development ventures. Currently, he serves on a national board of organizations providing one voice from the Christian community among people with disabilities. He also serves on a board overseeing another non-profit camping program for people with disabilities.

Operations Manager
Rhonette has a Degree in Business Management. With this experience she understands the importance of a strong team effort in accomplishing a higher purpose. Rhonette’s educational and occupational background provides an experienced office resource for the leadership of Lift, as well as, for the future development of this organization. She has served as General Manager for several national restaurant and hotel chains, and currently is involved in the mentorship of several women within her community.

It would be easy for this couple to sit back, take life as it comes, and participate at arm’s-length. However, after spending a little time with them one comes away knowing they sense a higher purpose and mission for their lives. It is with that conviction that they have planted their lives into the soil of Lift Disability Network.

Within minutes of getting out of the car a feeling of normalcy came over our family. As though we had been there for years.

Like a stone thrown into a pond, sometimes it seems God sends a ripple of blessings which begins with our saying “Yes.”  That happened to my husband and me when were asked if we would like to volunteer at Breakaway Camp. It was such a rewarding and joyful week!

There's a community created at Lift where you can enter at any level you want. All are accepted and welcomed. It's rewarding to be part of a ministry where everyone has something to offer.
