Florida Breakaway Summer Camp

Families

Breakaway Summer Camp is a four or five-day family retreat designed to provide relaxation, recreation and spiritual renewal for the disability family. Families impacted by disabilities enjoy a week filled with pampering, water activities, arts & crafts and many recreational options. Every day is capped with a family event such as a barn dance, luau or talent show.

Each child, teen or adult camper with a disability is matched to a crewmember we call their buddy for the week. Our buddies and programming staff serve each family with individualized attention and lots of love. At Breakaway Camp, we say “yes” to our campers! We work hard to help our campers discover they don’t need to be held back by limits. “Yes” they can achieve.

The strength of Breakaway Camp really takes place when families connect. Therefore, there are moments for peer-to-peer exchanges and disability life education that focus on renewing and creating a strong family bond.

At its core, Breakaway Camp is an opportunity for the disability family to connect to a loving God. Through the relationships made in over the days at camp, we can each see and experience Jesus’ example of love and acceptance.

Our theme for this summer is “Rooted!” We all have things that keep us rooted, that give us nourishment, that keep us standing tall when storms pass over. Come learn how putting down roots in a relationship with God and with each other can be the solid foundation you need to thrive in your life in a disability family.

Crew

To give the disability family an over-the-top week at Breakaway Camp, Lift Disability Network recruits volunteers to serve as buddies, programming staff and camp leaders. We affectionately refer to our team as The Crew.

During camp, our Crew is the game changer for families facing disability. Members of our team arrive a day early for training to prepare them for the many jobs, fun activities and the companionship they will provide. Then during camp, they act as a buddy or a part of our extended team. Regarding the time they spend with families, crewmembers often find it difficult to decide who was blessed greater: the families or themselves.

There is nothing like living recklessly for God and serving to lift His Kingdom. Breakaway is a unique way to see God reach through your hands and elevate the life of a disability family.
